Lessons from 10 Years of Back-to-School Supply Drives

A decade of folding tables, volunteers, and overstuffed backpacks has taught us a lot about what a community can do when it shows up for its kids. Here are ten of the biggest lessons from 10 years of our Back-to-School Supply Drive.

1. Showing Up Is Everything

Our first drive drew 40 volunteers and served 120 students. This year, 200+ volunteers helped us put supplies into the hands of more than 400 kids. Growth happens when people believe in the work and keep coming back.

2. Small Donations Add Up Fast

A box of crayons costs less than $2. A pack of pencils, about the same. When 500 donors each contribute $10 worth of supplies, we can fill 400 backpacks completely. The math is simple; the impact is lasting.

3. Kids Know When They're Seen

Every year, parents tell us their children carry those backpacks proudly through the school year — not because of the brand, but because someone took the time to fill it with care.
