How STEM Programs Are Changing Career Trajectories for Hispanic Youth
Apr 23, 2026 · by Sofia Torres
Representation in tech and engineering starts earlier than most people think. The students who will fill tomorrow's engineering labs, software teams, and research hospitals are sitting in East Los Angeles classrooms right now.
Our STEM Summer Camp — now in its sixth year — connects students in grades 5–9 with hands-on coding, robotics, and science curriculum designed to be engaging and accessible regardless of prior experience.
What the Data Shows
Of our 2022 STEM camp cohort, 78% reported increased interest in a STEM career after completing the program. Four alumni are now enrolled in college STEM programs — two in computer science, one in biomedical engineering, and one in environmental science.
Beyond the Curriculum
What makes our camp different isn't just the curriculum — it's the instructors. Many of our volunteers are working professionals in tech and science who look like the students they're teaching. Representation is a curriculum too.
